Private Funding For Treatment of Heroin Addicts

The foundation donates millions of dollars to fund addiction treatment centers. These facilities give scholarship beds to drug addicts who have no health insurance policy, or medicaid. State medicaid plans will not cover a private drug treatment center or a Suboxone doctor who can treat heroin addiction.

Many states have no funding for long term substance abuse treatment, so it is left to organizations including, Salvation Army, Faith Farm, and other christian charities to help non insured drug addicts get the therapy or counseling needed. In Florida there is a facility run by the department of corrections for inmates who are addicted to heroin and other drugs. In Arizona, there is a new state funded opioid crisis task force. Preventing heroin overdose is with Narcan is a priority.

There are new funding sources for medication assisted treatment for heroin addiction. These protocols include medications such as Suboxone, Subutex, and Vivitrol. Certified physicians can prescribe these medicines to prevent relapse and keep addicts in treatment longer. The federal government has voted on a bill to provide billions of dollars to combat the opioid crisis using mostly suboxone maintenance. In some southern states it taking much longer for medication assisted addiction treatment to be accepted. 12 step groups such as narcotics anonymous and cocaine anonymous are completely against suboxone programs.

In Tennessee there are currently 12 licensed clinics where individuals can receive treatment to reduce cravings and lessen withdrawal symptoms caused by quitting pain killers, and heroin. The two most common medicines used in Tennessee opioid treatment programs are Methadone and Buprenorphine. More public funding for these programs is needed. We are presently putting together private donations for suboxone maintenance programs in 11 states.
